Side by side

How we picked

This guide covers 10 gaming console listings priced under $600, matching the keyword. Each entry comes from a catalogue of consoles sold online, with details taken only from what the listing states: line, platform, form, edition, storage and bundle. The picks are ranked first by stated storage, largest amount first; when storage is equal, the order follows the catalogue pool, and listings that state no storage come last in pool order. The consoles are compared on stated details and live prices, with no guesswork and no claims beyond the listings.

How to choose

Pick the family first

The family is the first decision for a console buyer, because games and accessories are chosen for a family, not for a specific console. In this guide, the pool contains Xbox listings across several lines and Nintendo listings for the Switch and Switch 2. The family you already own games or accessories for may point you to one side of the pool, but this guide compares each listing only on the details stated in its own entry.

Home console or handheld

A home console is meant for a TV; a handheld has its own screen; a hybrid can do both. Every Xbox listing in this pool is a home console, while the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 listings are hybrids. A buyer who wants a screen built in should look at the hybrid listings, and a buyer who plays at a TV can read the form stated in each entry.

Disc or digital edition

The edition of a console is a stated choice: a digital edition means the title says all-digital, so there is no disc drive; a disc edition would state a disc drive. In this pool, only the two Xbox Series S listings state an all-digital edition. Someone who owns discs needs a console with a disc drive, so the edition stated in a listing is the deciding detail.

Storage: what the number means

The storage number in a listing is the room stated for what you install. This guide ranks the picks by that number, largest first, from 1TB down to 500GB; some listings state no storage at all. A larger number means more stated room for digital installs, but this guide does not state how many titles fit, because the catalogue has no data for that.

What a bundle means

A bundle listing states that extra items come in the box with the console. The title names the bundle, such as Mario Kart World, Call of Duty or NBA 2K20, and a buyer should read the listing for the full contents. This pool contains four bundle listings, and the guide notes a bundle only where the title states one.

What this guide leaves out

The catalogue used for this guide holds no data on frame rates, resolution, battery life, load times or online services, and the site does not guess those details. The comparison covers only what a listing states: line, platform, form, edition, storage, screen and bundle, plus the live price. Any other claim would go beyond the source material, so this guide leaves it out.

Questions

Does this guide cover game libraries, frame rates or battery life?

No. The catalogue used for this guide lists only stated details such as line, platform, form, edition, storage, screen and bundle. Game libraries, frame rates, resolution, battery life and load times are not part of the data, and the site does not guess them. The consoles are compared on stated details and live prices only.

What does a storage number mean here?

The storage number in a listing is the amount of room stated for what you install, written in gigabytes. This guide ranks picks by that number, largest first. It does not state how many games fit, because the catalogue has no data for that.

Why are some listings ranked last even though they are newer lines?

The ordering rule puts listings with stated storage first, largest amount first, and listings without a stated storage number last in pool order. A newer line with no stated storage therefore ranks below an older line that states 500GB or 1TB.

What is a hybrid console?

A hybrid listing describes a console that works on a TV and has its own screen. In this pool, the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 listings are hybrids; the other entries are home consoles meant for a TV.

What does an all-digital edition mean?

The listing title states all-digital, which means the console has no disc drive. A buyer who owns discs would need a console with a disc drive; this guide notes which listings state an edition and which do not.

How are console reviews made for this guide?

Each console is compared on the details stated in its listing and on its live price. No console has been used or measured by the site, and the guide never claims a frame rate, resolution, battery life or load time. The comparison stays within the catalogue data.
